I made this for Kayce's senior thesis show. She's curating a gallery about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. She still needs a lot of work to hang so I think you should send something. I made a new section on Flickr: Children's Book Peregrinations. They are some concepts I was exploring that ended up in cul-de-sacs. It would be nice to have them available online since I'd like to tell stories professionally but conceptually...they don't rest comfortably on my website. Peregrinations ,by the way, is a cool word. I like to peregrinate into the various ways to use peregrinations.
This story was about 'the elephant in the room' that a family chooses to ignore, especially the birthday boy. The elephant represents a very specific situation and the emotions regarding the situation at play. I stopped working on it because I thought the topic was a little too introspective and heavy. When I consider the topic now I realize kids are only as unreceptive as we allow them to be, I'm not giving them enough credit.

One of my lil lil sis' friends asked me if Pudding was a boy or girl and I said neither. I don't think Pudding needs to be defined.
Well, it's official, my website is done. Now then, it's time to scheme towards the children's book market. Many of you have heard this before, but I have not given up on it. I just decided to take the long way...and to walk.
I wanted a new and creative photo involving words for my about page on All the Words of a Language site (you know my regular website). With a white board marker, my lil lil sis had written on her mirror the lyrics to the McDonald's filet of fish commercial so she could remember it and I thought, "mmmm I LIKE THAT!" I put my own twist on it; write lyrics from The Shins and bring the mirror outside (wow I'm so clever!). It was a lot better in concept than in execution. 
These suck because: I didn't consider texture. There's too much. Desaturating couldn't even help that. There's not enough white space to balance the darks. There's not enough darks at all. A simpler background might have helped the tension in texture of the dress and grass but that mirror was too heavy to move. Speaking of which, perspective was tricky to play with because of the reflections in the mirror. Texture then created no contrast in color. In desperation I went blur tool happy in photoshap. Personal Lesson: photoshap can't save crap because it was crap to begin with. Balance texture with white space (don't take white space as literal white space). Try again.
This was found in a cushion of one of the many couches in my house. We like comfort.
I don't know who made it, but it speaks volumes about my environment. Draw your own conclusions about what I meant.
I bought a copy of Cathy Cullis' limited edition book Cherry Blossoms for the Broken Hearted. I want to quote the whole thing but I can't and I won't. Except for this excerpt from her poem Later: "A drawing of a rabbit / white ink on white. / A leap in the dark - / holding your voice in a paper hat. / Listening for the breath - / another.....yes. / dream creatures / are dancing, smudged together / graphite / twighlight."
I don't know many contemporary artists who produce as much work as her, except for maybe Chris Piascik whose theme is work>sleep. Actually, that's a lie because if you are a contemporary artist then you are producing work. If you're not making art are you really an artist?
She posts something new at least every other day which keeps me intrigued since her approach to creativity seems grounded, simple, and calm. I guess she doesn't see the internet as the daunting, annoying, creative killing cesspool machine I see it as. I have a lot to learn from her.
I have marker accidents all the time. Anyone else?

Hello! This is Pudding. He likes puddin'. My lil lil sis wanted me to make her a doodle based on the work of Chris Ryniak because she is the only 11 year old I know of who fancies his art. She also thinks the WORD pudding is funny. And this is how Pudding started.
She also finds humor in the word canoe. Clearly this was the next phase of the Pudding evolution.
She made her own version called Baby Pudding. As you can see, Baby Pudding does not know how to operate a canoe but still invests in safety through the use of various flotational devices.
After eating all that pudding and canoing this obviously was gonna happen.
Don't like throwing stuff away that looks interesting but underdeveloped. So I make new art from them...when I'm in the mood.
This was hand drawn typography used on the Cathy Cullis spreads for the Underground Art School 'zine. It was too pretty to trash so I made some type of...portrait. Frankly, I don't know what wordz to use to define (sprite, girl?). But I like the patterns and texture and how the wordz float in and through.
I had a phase where I incorporated typography as the image, which was cool but boring. I gessoed her onto a wood panel, played with ink, graphite, and bas relief, clear coated, and called it a day. I want to keep her, but I am selling her.
